WhatsApp Business Account (WABA)
A WhatsApp Business Account (WABA) is the Meta-side container that holds your WhatsApp Business API phone numbers, message templates, messaging limits and quality ratings. It lives inside a Meta Business Portfolio, is created during Embedded Signup, and is what Meta bills and reviews when it evaluates your business.

Why it matters
Everything Meta enforces is scoped to the WABA or to the numbers inside it: template approvals, the phone number quality rating, the messaging tier, and (since October 2025) the portfolio-level marketing limit that is shared across every WABA under one portfolio. If a WABA is restricted for policy reasons, every number in it stops sending templates. Businesses that run several brands usually keep one WABA per brand so a problem with one does not spill onto the others.

The channel health panel reads the WABA's quality rating, tier and template status every few minutes and shows "needs attention" before Meta's own emails arrive.
