Free WhatsApp Username Checker

Meta is rolling out WhatsApp usernames - Wave 1 opened July 7, 2026 and Wave 2 opens July 20, 2026. Check your @handle against Meta's format rules before you try to claim it.

@

This checks formatting only. It cannot tell you whether a username is already taken - only Meta's live system can confirm that. Connect your WhatsApp Business number to VGraple CRM to see real availability and claim it with a guided flow.

How to use the username checker

    1. Type the handle you want, without the at sign.
    2. Read the rule results: length, allowed characters, at least one letter, no leading or trailing period, no double periods, no "www" prefix.
    3. Check availability where Meta offers usernames for your account, then claim it from your business profile or from VGraple CRM's channel settings.

    The rules, explained

    • Length: 3 to 35 characters; short enough to say aloud is the practical test.
    • Characters: letters, digits, periods and underscores only; no spaces, hyphens or symbols.
    • At least one letter: a handle cannot be all digits.
    • Periods: not at the start or end, and not two in a row.
    • No "www": handles that look like web addresses are refused.
    • No impersonation: Meta refuses handles that imitate other brands, people or WhatsApp itself, and expects the handle to match your display name and verified business.

    Availability caveat

This checker tests the rules; it cannot query Meta's registry, because Meta does not expose one. Usernames are rolling out progressively through 2025 and 2026, so a handle that is free today may be claimed by an account that receives the feature earlier. Check your first three choices, check the same handles on Instagram and Facebook, and claim as soon as your number is eligible. The username feature page explains eligibility and the username guide covers what changes for customers.

    Common mistakes

    • Numbers that look like years, which date the brand.
    • Underscores where a period would read better.
    • A handle that differs from the Instagram handle, which confuses customers.
    • Generic words (best, official, deals) that fail impersonation and trust checks.
    • Changing the handle after printing it; old links stop working.

What happens after you claim it

Customers find you by name instead of a number, the number stays private on public materials, and the handle survives a number change. Put it everywhere the number appears and keep the display name consistent so the profile reads as one brand; 100 username ideas has industry examples.

    Frequently asked questions

Does this tool check if a username is actually available?

No. Real availability can only be checked against Meta's live system using an authenticated WhatsApp Business phone number, which this free tool does not have access to. This checker validates formatting only - whether your username follows Meta's allowed character rules and length limits.

Where do I check real availability and claim a username?

Connect your WhatsApp Business number to VGraple CRM. Once your account is eligible under Meta's rollout (Wave 1: July 7, 2026, Wave 2: July 20, 2026), a guided claim flow shows Meta-generated suggestions and tells you immediately if your chosen username is taken.

What are the WhatsApp username format rules?

3 to 35 characters, letters/digits/periods/underscores only, at least one letter, no leading or trailing period, no consecutive periods, cannot start with "www", and cannot end in a domain suffix like ".com".

Can I reserve a username before my account is eligible?

No. Claims happen inside WhatsApp when the feature reaches your account; check often and claim the moment it appears.

Is the username the same as the display name?

No. The display name is the business name Meta reviews and shows in the chat header; the username is the handle people search.

Can two businesses have similar usernames?

Similar, yes; identical, no. Handles are unique across WhatsApp.
