Running multiple WhatsApp numbers in one workspace means every connected number shares the same contacts, templates and automation, while broadcasts let you pick which number sends a given campaign and the inbox lets you filter conversations by number. Your plan sets how many numbers you can connect (Free 1, Starter 2, Growth 5, Scale unlimited) with no extra charge per number, and your monthly conversation allowance is shared across all of them.

Before you start
- You need at least one number already connected: see connecting your WhatsApp number.
- Adding a second or further number needs the org settings permission (Owner or Admin, or a custom role granted
settings:org); the walkthrough for adding one is in changing or adding a WhatsApp number. - Decide upfront which number should be your default, since automation rules, sequences and flows send from the default channel unless a specific step is built to target another one.
- Each number still draws from Meta's own per-portfolio daily messaging limit and its own individual quality rating and messaging tier; running several numbers does not multiply your portfolio's daily sending budget.
Steps
- Connect each number. Use Sync from Meta for a number already on a connected WhatsApp Business Account, Register new number for a genuinely new one, or Embedded Signup again for a number under a different Meta Business Manager entirely. The full walkthrough for all three paths is in changing or adding a WhatsApp number.

Give each channel a distinct name. On Settings, then Channels, then WhatsApp, every connected number gets its own card; edit its display name so your team can tell them apart at a glance, especially useful once you have three or more.
Set your default channel. Click Set as default on whichever number should handle sends that do not specify a channel. Only one number can be default at a time.
Pick a sender when you build a broadcast. As soon as a second WhatsApp channel exists, a Send from dropdown appears on the broadcast composer's first step, defaulting to your default channel and letting you choose any other connected number instead.
Filter the inbox by number, if you need to. A row of number chips appears under the stage filter once a second number is connected, showing each number's display name or phone number. Click one to see only conversations on that number, or All numbers to clear it.
Watch each number's health independently. Every channel card shows its own quality rating, messaging tier and connection status, since these are set by Meta per phone number, not shared across your portfolio. See channel health for what each indicator means.
What you will see
Every connected number appears as its own card on the WhatsApp channel settings page, each with an independent quality rating, messaging tier and token status. The Inbox conversation list gains a row of number chips the moment a second number connects, and templates, contacts, flows and automation rules stay shared across all of them rather than needing to be rebuilt per number. A broadcast's detail page shows which number it sent from.
Settings and options
| Setting or field | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Default channel | The number used for any send that does not specify a channel | The first number connected, changeable any time with Set as default |
| Send from (broadcasts) | Chooses which connected number a specific campaign sends from | The current default channel; appears only once a second number exists |
| Number chips (Inbox) | Filters the conversation list to one connected number | All numbers |
| Channel display name | An internal label shown on the card, in broadcasts, and in inbox filters | The verified display name Meta returns |
| Channel active/inactive | Whether a connected number can currently send and receive | Active on connection; deactivating stops new messages without deleting history |
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| "Send from" dropdown does not appear on a broadcast | Only one WhatsApp channel is currently connected and active | Connect a second number; the dropdown appears automatically once it exists |
| Number chips missing from the Inbox | Only one active WhatsApp number is connected | Expected; the filter row appears automatically once a second number connects |
| A sequence or automation rule sent from the wrong number | It used the default channel because it was not built to target a specific one | Set the intended number as default, or check whether that automation supports a channel override before relying on it for a specific number |
| Two numbers show very different quality ratings | Expected. Quality rating and messaging tier are set by Meta per phone number based on that number's own sending history | No action needed; each number's pacing already adapts to its own rating automatically |
| Cannot disconnect a number | It is currently the only active channel in the workspace | Add and confirm a replacement number first; the last active channel cannot be disconnected |
