Connecting Facebook Messenger takes one Facebook Login popup from Settings, then Channels: pick your Page, turn on the Messenger DMs toggle, and every new Messenger conversation starts landing in your shared team inbox with the same assignment, tags and automation tools you already use for WhatsApp.

Connect Messenger: first 5 of 7 steps

  1. 1Open Settings, then Channels
  2. 2Click Connect Messenger, Instagram, or Lead Ads,
  3. 3Select your Facebook Page
  4. 4Click Connect on that page
  5. 5Turn on the Messenger DMs toggle
The steps on this page, in order.

Before you start

  • You need a Facebook Page you manage or have admin access to. Messenger does not require a linked Instagram account or any separate business verification beyond the Page itself.
  • Your VGraple CRM role needs the org settings permission (Owner or Admin, or a custom role granted settings:org) to connect a channel.
  • Have the Facebook login you use to manage the Page ready for the OAuth popup.
  • A new Messenger conversation counts toward your plan's monthly conversation quota, calculated across every channel rather than WhatsApp alone.

Steps

  1. Open Settings, then Channels. The Meta connection section sits below the WhatsApp Business card.

A conversation open in the VGraple CRM inbox with stage, priority, assign, summary, snooze and resolve controls in the header

  1. Click Connect Messenger, Instagram, or Lead Ads, then Connect via Facebook. This single OAuth flow issues the Page permissions Messenger, Instagram and Lead Ads all rely on.

  2. Select your Facebook Page. VGraple CRM lists every Page your Facebook login administers; choose the one whose Messenger conversations you want in the inbox.

  3. Click Connect on that page. A Messenger channel card appears once Meta confirms the connection, showing the Page name.

  4. Turn on the Messenger DMs toggle. Each connected page shows two independent toggles, Messenger DMs and FB Comments. Turning on Messenger DMs starts routing new conversations into your inbox; leave FB Comments off unless you also want comment automation on Facebook posts.

  5. Rename the channel, if you like. The channel card's name is an internal label only, useful when a workspace has more than one connected Page and needs to tell them apart at a glance.

  6. Send a test message. Message the Page from a personal Facebook account and confirm the conversation appears in the Inbox, tagged Messenger.

What you will see

A new conversation tagged Messenger appears in the Inbox the moment someone messages the Page, with the sender's Facebook name and profile photo attached as soon as Meta's API resolves it. It sits in the same tab, filter and search system as your WhatsApp and Instagram conversations, and can be assigned, tagged, noted, snoozed or resolved exactly the same way. A live countdown is not shown for Messenger the way it is for WhatsApp's 24-hour window, but the composer and any automation still respect the window internally.

Messenger DMs toggle is on but nothing arrivesMeta's webhook subscription for the page needs re-establishing, often after a token change on Meta's sideDisconnect and reconnect the page from the Channels settings to refresh the subscription
Conversation shows a generic name instead of the sender's Facebook nameMeta's profile lookup has not resolved yet, or hit the app-wide rate limit shared across every organisationExpected for a short window; a background sweep retries automatically on a backoff
Cannot reply after 24 hours have passedMessenger's standard reply window closed and Human Agent has not been granted for this account yetWait for the customer's next message to reopen the window, or apply for Meta's Human Agent feature if this happens often

Connect Instagram DMs from the same Page next, or set up comment automation so a Facebook comment can move into a private Messenger DM automatically. Frequently asked questions

What do I need before connecting Messenger?
A Facebook Page you manage or have admin access to, and a Facebook login that can approve the Page permissions Meta's connection popup asks for. No separate app review or waiting period is needed for the standard connect flow.
Does connecting Messenger also connect Instagram automatically?
No, they are separate toggles even though both come from the same Connect Messenger, Instagram, or Lead Ads flow. Connecting a Page adds Messenger DMs and FB Comments toggles; a linked Instagram account gets its own card with its own toggles.
Can multiple agents reply to the same Messenger conversation?
Yes. A Messenger conversation behaves exactly like a WhatsApp one in the shared inbox: it can be assigned, reassigned, tagged, and shows a collision warning if a teammate already has it open.
What is the reply window on Messenger, and can it be extended?
24 hours from the customer's last message for any reply, automated or human. A genuine human reply can extend to 7 days once Meta approves your account for the Human Agent feature; an automated bot reply is never eligible for that extension.
Can I run the same chatbot on Messenger that I use on WhatsApp?
Yes. The same flow builder, automation rules and AI assistant that answer WhatsApp conversations can be turned on for Messenger, so you are not building or maintaining a second bot.
Does a Messenger contact become a WhatsApp contact automatically?
No, and this is deliberate. A Messenger contact is a separate consent record from a WhatsApp contact; they are only linked if the same person is separately reachable on WhatsApp and a teammate connects the two manually.
