Error 3441061 stops a WhatsApp number from being connected to any platform because Meta has it enrolled in a feature called automatic events. It is one of the more confusing blocks a business can hit, because the instruction Meta gives you points at a setting that is frequently invisible in the app, and because businesses who do find it and switch it off often see the same error again straight afterwards.
Symptom
You start the connection from Settings, then Channels, then WhatsApp, Meta's popup opens as normal, and part way through it stops with a message close to this wording:
Your phone number is already linked to automatic events. To use it for embedded sign-up, turn off Auto labels in Business tools > Labels in your WhatsApp Business app.
The code shown alongside it is 3441061. Nothing is created in your workspace, the channel list still reads "No channel connected," and repeating the connection produces the identical result every time.
The block happens inside Meta's own window, before Meta ever hands anything to VGraple CRM, so there is no failure on our side to inspect and no partial connection left behind to clean up.
Why it happens
Automatic events is a Meta feature aimed at businesses that advertise. When a person clicks a Click to WhatsApp ad and messages the business, Meta reads the conversation and tries to identify whether it turned into a lead or a purchase, then labels the chat accordingly and reports the event back so the ad can be optimised against real outcomes rather than clicks.
A number gets enrolled in one of two ways. Someone accepted it in the WhatsApp Business app, where it surfaces as automatic labelling of new chats, or someone accepted it during an earlier Embedded Signup attempt, where it appears on Meta's business asset screen as a checkbox offering to let Meta automatically identify order and lead events.
Meta treats that enrolment as an exclusive arrangement with the number. The chats being read belong to the WhatsApp Business app account, and once the number moves onto the WhatsApp Business Platform, the same conversations would be flowing to a platform instead. Rather than resolve that automatically, Meta blocks the connection until the business withdraws the number from automatic events.
Why the setting looks like it is already off
Almost every business that hits this error reports the same thing: they went to the setting Meta named, found it switched off or missing entirely, and got the error again anyway. That is a genuine gap in Meta's message, not something you are doing wrong. There are three separate causes.
The Labels section is hidden in a number of localised builds of the WhatsApp Business app. Businesses running the app in a language other than English frequently have no Labels entry under Business tools at all, so there is nothing to switch off even though the enrolment is active.
The enrolment is stored on Meta's side, not only on the phone. The toggle in the app controls the labelling you can see, while the record that blocks the connection belongs to the business portfolio the number sits in. That record has its own switch, in Meta Business Suite, and it is the one that actually clears the block.
Meta caches the result. Even after the correct switch has been turned off, an immediate retry frequently returns the same error, because the check is answered from a cached value rather than re-evaluated. Waiting before retrying is part of the fix rather than an optional extra.
Fix
- Update the WhatsApp Business app on the phone that owns the number. Older builds behave inconsistently here, and coexistence connection requires version 2.24.17 or later regardless.
- Temporarily set the app language to English (US), force close the app, and reopen it. In localised builds this is often what makes the Labels section appear at all. Settings, then Business tools, then Labels, then turn off Auto labels. The chat list three dot menu is a second route to the same screen.
- Turn the enrolment off in Meta Business Suite. Sign in at business.facebook.com with the account that owns the number, open Settings, then Accounts, then WhatsApp accounts, select the account, open the Summary tab, and find Privacy and data sharing. Turn off the option offering to automatically identify order and lead events. This is the switch that clears the block for most businesses, and it is the one Meta's own developer documentation points at.
- Check the ad side if the number has run Click to WhatsApp ads. The enrolment usually originates there, so look at the business portfolio and ad account associated with the number rather than only at the phone.
- Wait before retrying. Thirty minutes is usually enough, and it can take up to twenty four hours for Meta to stop returning the cached answer.
- Retry the connection in a fresh browser window. Sign in to Facebook again inside the popup rather than relying on a session that was open while the setting was still on.
When the setting cannot be found anywhere
If Labels does not exist in the app after updating and switching the language, and the WhatsApp accounts entry does not exist in Business Suite because the number has never been on the platform before, then the enrolment can only be cleared by Meta. This is not a dead end and it does not require you to deal with Meta yourself.
Message us from Support inside VGraple CRM with three things: a screenshot of the exact error screen, which carries the session ID Meta needs in order to trace the attempt, the phone number in full international format, and the name of your Meta business portfolio. VGraple is a Meta Tech Provider, so we raise it through Meta's direct support channel with the error code and the session details attached, and we follow it through rather than handing you a case number.
What you can do while it is being cleared
Nothing about your workspace has to sit idle. The sandbox number that comes with every workspace lets you use the shared inbox, build and test flows, draft templates ready for submission, and try the AI replies, all without a connected number. Everything you set up on the sandbox carries over once your real number connects, so the wait costs you no setup time. See try the sandbox number for how to start it.
Which connect button to use afterwards
Once the block is cleared, use Connect in coexistence mode if you intend to keep using the WhatsApp Business app on your phone. Coexistence keeps the app working exactly as it does today, mirrors phone replies into the CRM inbox, and imports up to 180 days of chat history and your address book contacts. Use standard Embedded Signup only if the number is moving to the platform entirely and the phone app is being retired. Connect in coexistence mode covers the QR code step in detail, and WhatsApp Business app vs API account explains what changes either way.
Prevention
If you connect other numbers later, watch for the checkbox on Meta's business asset screen during signup that offers to let Meta automatically identify order and lead events. Leaving it unchecked keeps the number free to move between platforms without this block. It is worth being deliberate about, because the feature is easy to accept in passing and awkward to reverse afterwards. Businesses that want lead and order tracking usually get more from doing it in the CRM, where a lead is scored on your own criteria and the result is visible on the contact record, than from Meta inferring it from message text.
