Automation rule
An automation rule is a simple event-driven instruction inside a CRM: when a defined event happens (a lead is created from a source, a conversation changes stage, a tag is added, a form is submitted), the rule checks its conditions and takes an action without waiting for a reply.

Why it matters
Rules are the glue between the conversation and the process: the sales assignment that follows a lead's source, the appointment reminder that fires on "confirmed", the Slack ping when a VIP writes in.

Lead rules live under Settings with conditions and one action, which team member the new lead goes to; they run top to bottom and the first matching rule wins. Everything that talks to the customer is a flow in the Flow Builder, started by a trigger such as New lead arrives, a keyword, a tag, a form or an appointment event.
